The Power of Prayer, Part 2:
The Importance of Prayer in our intimacy with God
Living TRUTH Radio Broadcast, February 27, 1998
One of the greatest hindrances from praying in our modern times seems to be our busyness. There is just not enough time in the average Christian's life for prayer. Sometimes I wonder if we should ask ourselves if we have time enough to breathe?
What a foolish question! But also how foolish are we when we ignore our need for the Breath of God! Just as our bodies are designed to naturally inhale oxygen, the inner life of a child of God requires the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, through the quite natural and normal exercise of prayer.
But the deceiver does not want us to communicate with our Heavenly Father. His job is to inject thoughts and feelings which suggest that our God is distant and unreachable -- or too busy -- or that you are unworthy to approach Him!
But I want you to know that the Cross of Christ has brought this one to an open shame! It grieves him every time he hears John 3:16, that God so loved THE WORLD, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall NOT PERISH, but have everlasting Life! He cringes every time the Good News is heard, that God was IN CHRIST, reconciling the world unto Himself, Not imputing their trespasses against them, for every one that believes this message is one more nail in his coffin!
You can now have boldness to enter into the Most Holy Place
by the blood of Jesus,
By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh (Hebrews 10:19, 20).
Brother, Sister, you are a potential power house for God, when you simply respond to the call of His Spirit! He wants to use YOU to break down the gates of Hell!
Come, fully receive the gift of His Grace. Let not one drop of the blood Jesus shed for you be wasted! And I say unto you that it is a crime, a spiritual abortion, every time a blood bought child of God fails to come to his or her full potential in Christ!
The most powerful step any individual in this world can take is to receive the free gift of God's forgiveness and justification, entering into union with Him. From that point on no barriers exist between you and your Father. What sweet communion He desires to have with you!
You see, you and I are only truly powerful when we are either literally or figuratively on our knees before Him! He wants to hear your cares and concerns, but most of all -- I believe He wants to share His Secrets with you!
Oh to run from the business, the idleness, the vanity of this world -- into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father! Oh to know Jesus Christ more intimately!
This is the meaning, the purpose, the power of Prayer!
Is your appetite f or the kind of prayer life that I am talking about increasing? Well then, PRAISE THE LORD! Everything around you and in your life is about to change!
The Simplicity of Christ
In 2 Corinthians 11:1-3, Paul the apostle wrote these words to the church:
Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly:
and indeed bear with me. For I am jealous over you with godly
jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present
you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
This is a direct reference to what was said earlier. Satan knows that he will be in great danger, and his work will become useless if we simply discover who we really are in Christ --and Who He is IN US!
Here is the issue -- Christ! He is both the Center and Circumference of our existence! It is as simple as that!
But there is a struggle in the battlefield of our minds! We need a breakthrough -- a fresh revelation of the awesome, glorious, beautiful, magnificent Person of Jesus Christ! We need to return to Him -- our first Love!
And this Love for Him must find expression in our Love for one another! Fulfilling the first and last great commandment!
Oh, but do we really have the time for that?
Satan has convinced us that we need so much MORE!
Intellectual knowledge, entertainment, programs and plans, goose bumps and signs and wonders! Material prosperity! But wait --
Let all of heaven and earth bear witness to this truth that WE NEED JESUS! And He is all that we need!
In Jesus we have peace -- Salvation!
In Jesus we have purpose -- His Gospel!
In Jesus we have family -- The church!
In Jesus we have hope -- His Kingdom!
In Jesus we have assurance -- His Eternal Word!
Beloved, my heart is broken today for us -- the people of God. How could we get so far off the track that Jesus laid for us? When did we forget Him and the race that He has run before us?
I don't know how many times I have asked myself this very question. I give up. I doesn't matter now, for God is lifting us up TODAY to live in His sight!
Arise, shine for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee!
How much time?
Friends, let me tell you, I am as busy as the rest of you. I have my own business, this ministry, I have 3 adult children, 6 grandchildren, aunts, uncles, and cousins all over Central Ohio, and Christian friends all around the world.
But I won't be any good to any of them if I don't spend time with God.
If my days get too full, I will stay up late to pray. If my mind gets too active, I must shut things out. I will pray in the truck on the way to work, and even pray while I am working.
As a matter of fact, I am at work even as I prepare this message.
Jesus said to seek first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and He will take care of the rest!
Some may say at this point: It sounds like you are into works.
You better believe it! I am working out my salvation with fear and trembling -- because God is working in me to do of His good pleasure!
This too, is part of knowing and loving Him: Keeping his commandments -- but not the commandments of religious men!
Prayer has to do with our relationship with God. In it we both communicate with Him and intercede for the needs of others, participating in His reign in this earth. By our prayers, we actually bring heaven to earth! But let us never forget the most important aspect of all, to know Christ, and the power of His resurrection, as well as the fellowship of His sufferings.
In Him, we become free from religious thinking, and begin to daily experience the abundant life. All of our highs and lows begin to have significance, and even the very ordinary routines of life take on new meaning. Jesus is a way of life, of rejoicing, of caring, of sharing, of even suffering for the benefit of others. And in all of this we continue to experience His living presence, daily growing together unto the measure of the stature of His fullness!
Where my friend do you stand in your relationship with Him? This is the most important question of all.
Heavenly Father, we come to you in the precious Name of Jesus, Who gave Himself for us that He might redeem us from all iniquity, purifying for Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
All we can do today is to surrender our lives into your hands, trusting in the power of your cross to save us. From this day forward we are yours, to do with as you please, to be unto the praise of your glory and grace.
May we allow nothing great or small to hinder our relationship with you, not even the doubts that exist in our own minds. May the cleansing of your Word today deliver us from any doubts, that we may always be free to enjoy perfect and uninhibited fellowship with you.
In Jesus Name,
