Hello brother Dan. Thank you for your ministry! And for following closely to the Master during these difficult days.
Strangely, the “call” and the “calling” are at the center of a huge defect in our modern church practices. Yes, this is a slightly different context than the “high calling” of which you write.
Those words represent another way to increase the superiority of some believers over others. And their alleged “call to the ministry”. The sad result is hierarchy for some and passivity for most.
Worse still, our reformed brothers, who are mostly cessationists, believe that God… STILL speaks directly to ministerial candidates regarding their “call to preach”. Do you not see the inconsistency of this position?
It’s late in the game. Darkness is setting in. Needs are surrounding us. Every believer must get up off the bench and participate as never before. This is their true calling.
David,
Among other similar exhortations in the New Testament, Peter adds this one:
1 Peter 4:10
10 As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
NASB
Many times we find in the NT that God has invested special gifts in all of His children. All in differing ways reveal many dimensions of His goodness, love an grace!
