What a fascinating series you have brought to our eyes AND ears. I must thank you again.

Let me direct you to Acts 6 right now: “So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of *priests* became obedient to the faith.”

History tells us the number of synagogue in Jerusalem : Rabbinic traditions preserved in the Talmud state there were either 394- 480 synagogues in Jerusalem before the city was destroyed by the Romans.

With that in mind, is it not possible and likely that at least one of these assemblies could have entirely converted to Christ. And if so – would not they continue to meet in the same place? And in much the same way?

By “same way” I mean the open meeting format which gave Christ and the apostles the ability, as newcomers, to open the scriptures and address the others.

Like yourself, I have seen plenty of “house church only” mentality. But why did the Saviour and his apostles not recommend or enforce such a limited view.

Rather, they seem to teach that PLACE did not matter. Worshipping in SPIRIT was the goal.

David, Thanks for the information. I did not realize there were that many synagogues in Jerusalem at that time. On the priests who became obedient to the faith, I only wish more information was recorded in the New Testament concerning them. We do have Paul’s controversy with some Jews who taught the gentiles should become circumcised. We don’t know if these priests had any part of that, however.

While we can see the benefits of house church when it comes to open meetings, we must also admit that there are 166 more hours in the week for believers to practice their faith and serve in their gifts after Sunday morning! It is not the physical place that matters, it truly is about worshipping God everyday in Spirit and in Truth!
